Synopsis
12.12: The Day (2023) is a South Korean political thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It compresses nine hours of a single December night in 1979, when a clique of generals tried to seize Seoul by force.
President Park has just been assassinated, and the country runs under martial law. Defense Security Commander Chun Doo-gwang (Hwang Jung-min) gathers a secret ring of officers and, on a fabricated charge, arrests the army chief of staff — the opening move of a coup. Standing in his path is Capital Defense Commander Lee Tae-shin (Jung Woo-sung), a stubborn soldier convinced the military has no business in politics. From there it comes down to phone calls, redeployed troops and whose nerve breaks first before dawn.
Director Kim Sung-su stages the real events like a slow-burning fuse: the outcome sits in the history books, yet the tension never eases. At home the film became one of the decade's biggest hits, drawing more than thirteen million admissions. A heavy, gripping watch for anyone who likes dense thrillers about power and the men who grab for it. Stream 12.12: The Day (2023) online on iFILM.
