Synopsis
Hunt (헌트, 2022) is a Korean spy thriller you can watch online on iFILM. The film marks the directorial debut of Lee Jung-jae — known globally as the lead of Squid Game — and it lands as a dense, paranoid political thriller set inside South Korea's intelligence apparatus in 1983. After an assassination attempt on the president during a state visit to Washington, two KCIA chiefs are ordered to smoke out a deep-cover North Korean spy known only as Donglim.
Foreign Unit head Park Pyong-ho (Lee Jung-jae) and Domestic Unit chief Kim Jung-do (Jung Woo-sung) each believe the other is the mole. The film runs on that mutual suspicion rather than on simple action set-pieces — though those are sharp when they arrive. Jung Hae-jin and Jeon Man-sik anchor a strong supporting cast that keeps the web of allegiances genuinely hard to read.
Hunt screened out of competition at Cannes 2022, a notable landing for a first feature. What makes it stick beyond the genre mechanics is its interest in how institutions devour the people who serve them. Stream Hunt (2022) online on iFILM.
