Nicotina

Nicotina (2003) is a Mexican black comedy you can watch online on iFILM, and proof of how fast one bad decision can torch a whole night in Mexico City. Diego Luna plays Lolo, a paranoid, chain-smoking hacker who has wired his neighbor Andrea's apartment with hidden cameras instead of minding his actual job.

The surveillance gets discovered. Andrea trashes his place, and in the chaos Lolo grabs the wrong disc for a meeting with the Russian mob — footage of his crush rather than the codes to their Swiss accounts. From there the evening spirals: diamonds, gunfire, furious gangsters, a pharmacist with his own grudge, and a few bystanders unlucky enough to be nearby. The plot runs almost in real time and stays wound tight throughout.

Director Hugo Rodríguez delivers a sharp, darkly funny and occasionally bloody piece where the cigarette is both a trigger and a last beat of calm before things blow up.
