Synopsis
Games of Love and Chance (L'Esquive, 2003) is Abdellatif Kechiche's tender French drama, free to watch online on iFILM. In a housing estate on the edge of Paris, a group of teenagers rehearse a Marivaux play — and an eighteenth-century comedy of disguised lovers starts mirroring their own messy hearts.
Krimo has fallen for Lydia. He wants nothing to do with the school production until he realizes the lead role would cast him as her on-stage suitor, so he buys the part off a classmate. From there the lines blur. Nobody, least of all Krimo, can tell where the script ends and a real confession begins. Kechiche shoots in long, near-musicless takes, letting the rapid, overlapping slang of the banlieue carry every scene.
