Synopsis
New Monsters (I nuovi mostri, 1977) is an Italian anthology comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Three directors — Dino Risi, Mario Monicelli, and Ettore Scola — split twelve short episodes between them, each taking the stories that suited their sensibility.
Alberto Sordi, Vittorio Gassman, and Ugo Tognazzi rotate through the cast, episode by episode turning into a different species of Italian hypocrite: the selfless good Samaritan who turns calculating the instant things get inconvenient, the hitchhiker who reveals exactly what he thinks of his fellow citizens, the restaurant world with its backstage realities. The film follows on directly from the trio's 1963 I mostri, and the target is the same — Italian society, stripped of its public face.
