Synopsis
What You Wish For (2024) is a tense psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Ryan, a gifted chef buried under gambling debts, takes up an old culinary-school friend's invitation and flies out to a lavish villa somewhere in Latin America. His friend seems to have it all figured out — private chef to the rich, a dream house, an easy and well-fed life.
Ryan's envy curdles into temptation, and temptation into a fateful choice: to slip into another man's identity and take over his place. But the dead friend's job has a hidden side Ryan never saw coming, and the guests arriving for an upcoming dinner party are not there for fine cuisine. Director Nicholas Tomnay keeps Nick Stahl's chef in steady discomfort — there's little gore here, just a slow, clinging dread.
The whole story plays out almost entirely inside one villa, tightening the noose around a man who stuck his own head into someone else's life. It's a sharp parable about the price of easy money and how far a person will go to wipe out what he owes. A great fit for fans of smart indie thrillers built on a moral trap and an unsettling finish.
