Gun City

Gun City (La sombra de la ley, 2018) is a Spanish crime thriller directed by Dani de la Torre — watch it online on iFILM. Barcelona, 1921. A Madrid detective arrives in a city already on the edge: labor strikes, anarchist cells, shootings in broad daylight. His job is to find a cache of military weapons lifted from a transport train. Simple enough — except the local police want him gone, and everyone in town seems to have a reason to keep the guns from being found.

Luis Tosar plays the investigator as a man who trades in results, not ideology. Michelle Jenner and Jaime Lorente — familiar from Money Heist — fill out a cast that keeps the film moving through interrogations, raids, and double-crosses set against a backdrop that is very specifically documented history. The early 1920s in Barcelona really were defined by the "pistolerismo" — an open street war between industrialists and unions that left hundreds dead.
