Synopsis
Protocol (1984) is a Washington satire you can watch online on iFILM, with Goldie Hawn trading her cocktail tray for a desk at the State Department.
Hawn plays Sunny Davis, a bar waitress who throws herself in front of a bullet meant for a visiting Middle Eastern emir and wakes up a national hero. A government post follows. So does a marriage proposal from the emir himself, plus a quiet Pentagon scheme to plant a military base on his soil, with naive Sunny as the cover story. Once the deal leaks, she stops playing the fool and starts playing the room. Directed by Herbert Ross, alongside Chris Sarandon, Andre Gregory and a very young Jean Smart, it's a breezy Reagan-era comedy about one ordinary woman outmaneuvering the whole capital. Easy fun for longtime Goldie Hawn fans.
