Synopsis
The Monkey King 2 (2016) is a Hong Kong–Chinese fantasy you can watch online on iFILM, loosely drawn from the old epic Journey to the West. Five hundred years after wrecking the heavens, Sun Wukong is freed from the rock that held him.
His liberator is the wandering monk Tang Sanzang, headed west to retrieve sacred scrolls. The gods make the Monkey King his bodyguard, and the road turns dangerous fast. Blocking it is Lady White Bone (Gong Li), who needs the monk's flesh for immortality and will happily turn the travelers against one another to get it. Aaron Kwok stars as Sun Wukong, with Feng Shaofeng as the monk.
Director Cheang Pou-soi leans hard into bright CGI, lavish costumes and wuxia-style brawls — this is a fairy-tale blockbuster, not a faithful reading of the novel. A solid pick for a family popcorn night when you want spectacle over subtlety. Stream The Monkey King 2 (2016) online on iFILM.
