Synopsis
All the King's Men (2006) is a political drama directed by Steven Zaillian — watch it online on iFILM. The film adapts Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, tracing the rise and corruption of Willie Stark (Sean Penn), a rough-edged Louisiana politician who campaigns on honesty and fury at the establishment.
Journalist Jack Burden (Jude Law) falls in with Stark early, genuinely believing in the man. The disillusionment arrives slowly, then all at once: the governor who promised to tear down the corrupt machine quietly becomes its engine instead. Anthony Hopkins, Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo and James Gandolfini fill out a cast that's hard to ignore even when the film itself stumbles.
Zaillian, who wrote the screenplay for Schindler's List, adapted a story rooted in the career of real Louisiana governor Huey Long — a man who was both a genuine champion of the poor and an autocrat who ruled by fear and manipulation in the 1930s. The novel won the Pulitzer in 1947; this version updates the setting. Stream All the King's Men (2006) on iFILM.
