Chrysalis (2007) is a French sci-fi action thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Picture a near-future Paris of wet streets and cold blue light, where cop Hoffmann buries his partner after a shootout with a human trafficker and goes hunting for the man who pulled the trigger.

A second thread runs alongside it. A surgeon has built a machine that rewrites memory, and when a car crash leaves her daughter dying, she starts editing the girl's mind to keep her alive. The two stories drift toward each other. Director Julien Leclercq made his debut feature lean and brutal: not many fights, but the ones there land hard and end fast. Albert Dupontel plays the burnt-out detective, Marthe Keller the doctor who went past the line. This one is for viewers who like their science fiction closer to noir than to spectacle.
