Synopsis
Genera+ion (2021) is an HBO Max teen drama you can watch online on iFILM, set in a status-obsessed corner of suburban California.
A loose clique of high schoolers works through sexuality, identity and first love out loud, in a community that would rather they kept quiet. At the center sit shy, openly gay Chester, a pregnant Delfina, and twins Nathan and Naomi. The show keeps scrambling its timeline — half the pleasure is piecing together how everyone ended up at the mall around one very unexpected emergency.
It was created by teenager Zelda Barnz alongside her father Daniel, which is why it reads from inside Gen Z rather than peering in at it. Justice Smith and Martha Plimpton hold down the grown-up corners. There's only one season; HBO Max pulled the plug before the story could land, so go in knowing it stops mid-sentence.
