Synopsis

Infamous (2006) is a crime drama from director Douglas McGrath that you can watch online on iFILM. Toby Jones plays Truman Capote at his most calculating: heading to rural Kansas to report on the quadruple murder of the Clutter family, and ending up spending years inside the story he came to write.

Daniel Craig plays convicted killer Perry Smith — cold, precise, and oddly articulate — and the film's best scenes are the prison conversations between him and Capote, where it's never quite clear who is using whom. Sandra Bullock is Capote's lifelong friend Nelle Harper Lee, who watches the whole enterprise with growing unease. Gwyneth Paltrow, Sigourney Weaver, and Isabella Rossellini round out the Manhattan social orbit that Capote regales with increasingly dramatic accounts of his Kansas odyssey.

The film landed in the same release window as Bennett Miller's Capote and got buried by comparison, which was unfair. McGrath's version is more theatrical and more interested in the social performance of celebrity — Jones plays Capote as a man who turns everything, including a murder investigation, into a starring role.
