A gambler (Guy Pearce) is certain his luck has finally turned. A waitress (Kate Beckinsale) loses herself in strangers. A teenage girl (Dakota Fanning) who lost her father reaches for faith. Their paths barely touch; only that one afternoon binds them.

Adapted from Roy Freirich's novel and released in some countries as Fragments, the film keeps that scattered, mosaic shape. The cast runs deep — alongside the leads there's Jennifer Hudson, Josh Hutcherson and Jackie Earle Haley.
