Synopsis
The Invisible Woman (2013) is a British period drama you can watch online on iFILM — directed by and starring Ralph Fiennes, with Felicity Jones as Nelly Ternan, the woman Charles Dickens loved and publicly erased for thirteen years.
In 1857, at the height of his celebrity, Dickens meets teenage actress Nelly through her mother's theatre connections. What begins as admiration becomes an affair he will never acknowledge in print or in public. He separates from his wife Catherine — played by Joanna Scanlan in one of the film's best performances — but keeps Nelly in the shadows, financially provided for and officially invisible. Kristin Scott Thomas plays Nelly's pragmatic, quietly heartbroken mother, who understands exactly what her daughter is agreeing to.
Fiennes adapts Claire Tomalin's award-winning biography with restraint — no swelling score, no grand declarations. Jones carries the film inward, showing the cost of loving someone who can only love you privately. It's a film more interested in the texture of concealment than in romantic myth.
