Synopsis
Klondike (2014) is a Discovery Channel drama-western you can watch online on iFILM. Two boyhood friends step off a steamer into a frozen Yukon boomtown in the late 1890s, where an ounce of gold dust is worth a man's life.
Bill, played by Richard Madden, came north to strike it rich. The real enemies turn out to be the cold, starvation and neighbors who've shed every rule they ever had. A grasping businessman and a sharp-eyed saloon owner run the town. Abbie Cornish, Tim Roth and Sam Shepard fill out a cast of people the gold rush has already hollowed out. Director Simon Cellan Jones keeps the snow filthy and the violence sudden.
This miniseries draws on Charlotte Gray's nonfiction account of the real Dawson City settlement. There's no sprawl here — three tight episodes that pile fresh disaster onto the leads each time.
