Synopsis
Small Crimes (2017) is a Canadian-American crime thriller directed by E.L. Katz, adapted from Dave Zeltserman's novel — watch it online on iFILM. Joe Denton has served six years for attempted murder. He walks out of prison convinced he's changed and drives straight back to the small town where everything went wrong the first time.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays Joe with the specific confidence of a man who has rehearsed his own redemption arc and genuinely believes it. What he finds at home: a dying crime boss who wants a loose end tied up, former cop colleagues he once took money from, and parents — Robert Forster and Jacki Weaver — who aren't sure what to do with him. Gary Cole and Macon Blair round out a cast that keeps the film from tipping into pure noir pastiche.
Katz pitches it somewhere between deadpan comedy and slow-motion disaster. Joe isn't stupid. He just can't stop being exactly the person he was before. Stream Small Crimes (2017) online on iFILM.
