Synopsis

Tread (2020) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Paul Solet reconstructs the strange, true story of Marvin Heemeyer in the small town of Granby, Colorado.

A skilled welder spent years fighting town hall and a cement company over a patch of land, and lost every round. So he locked himself in his shop and, over roughly a year and a half, secretly sheathed a Komatsu bulldozer in layers of steel and concrete until it was effectively bulletproof. In the summer of 2004 he drove it straight at the homes and businesses of the people he blamed. The press later nicknamed the machine the "killdozer."

Solet blends eyewitness interviews, news footage and Heemeyer's own audio tapes, so you hear his reasoning in his own voice and decide for yourself whether he's a victim or a villain. It's an uneasy portrait of a man pushed past the edge by grievance and sheer stubbornness. Stream Tread online on iFILM.
