Synopsis
Naqoyqatsi (2002) is Godfrey Reggio's experimental documentary, and you can watch online on iFILM. It caps the Qatsi trilogy, scored by Philip Glass with cello by Yo-Yo Ma and presented by Steven Soderbergh.
There is no dialogue here, only a river of images riding Glass's score. The title comes from the Hopi language and translates as "life as war," and that's the whole thesis: a planet ruled by technology, data, and violence. Reggio nearly abandons live photography this time, building the film from manipulated, digitally reborn footage — the faces of the twentieth century's leaders and icons, equations, stadiums, electronic noise. From Einstein to bin Laden, from Brando to Mao, history flickers past as a stream of symbols. This isn't a film for anyone waiting on a plot; it's part meditation, part provocation, hitting the eyes and ears at once. For fans of Koyaanisqatsi and visual avant-garde, it's essential.
