Synopsis
Route Irish (2011) is Ken Loach's drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Private security contractor Fergus refuses to believe the official account of his best friend's death on Iraq's deadliest road and sets out to uncover the truth himself.
Route Irish is the airport road into Baghdad's Green Zone, where mercenaries died more often than anywhere else. When his friend's coffin comes home, Fergus launches his own investigation: a dead man's phone, scraps of video, former comrades who clearly know more than they let on. The deeper he digs, the clearer it gets that the private-war industry runs on money paid for in other people's lives. Mark Womack plays a man pushed past the edge by guilt and rage.
As ever, Loach makes not an action movie but an indictment — this time of war's privatization and the impunity of contractors in Iraq. No gloss, restless handheld camera, a bitter ending. Made for viewers who want hard questions rather than spectacle. Stream Route Irish (2011) online on iFILM.
