Synopsis
Raining Stones (1993) is a Ken Loach social drama you can watch online on iFILM. Out of work in a Manchester estate, Bob wants one small thing: a proper white dress for his daughter's First Communion. The money isn't there. His pride, though, has no shortage.
So Bob takes whatever comes — unclogging drains, rustling a sheep for its meat, hawking joints from the back of a van. When the honest routes run dry, he borrows from a loan shark, and the debt starts closing around the whole family. Bruce Jones plays a man who's turned a child's dress into a matter of dignity, with Ricky Tomlinson alongside as the father-in-law forever pitching some dodgy scheme.
Loach films it without pity and without judgment: people living at the edge, cracking jokes through gritted teeth, holding onto each other. The film took the Jury Prize at Cannes and remains one of the warmest portraits of working-class Britain in the nineties. If you value honest cinema with no gloss, this one lands fast.
