Synopsis
Hidden Agenda (1990) is Ken Loach's political thriller, free to watch online on iFILM. An American human-rights lawyer is gunned down on a Belfast street, and the police want everyone to call it a shootout. His partner refuses to.
Ingrid Jessner, played by Frances McDormand, is left holding the tape her colleague died for. She finds an unlikely ally in Kerrigan, a British investigator sent to tidy up the case — Brian Cox plays him as a man who realises far too late where the trail leads. The further they dig, the clearer it gets: the killing wasn't sectarian crossfire but a covert operation that reaches into Westminster itself. Watch for Brad Dourif and a very young Michelle Fairley in the supporting cast.
Loach skips the chase scenes and builds the dread out of paperwork, surveillance and official lies — the tagline says it plainly: every government has one. The film took the Jury Prize at Cannes and still rattles anyone who would rather forget 1980s Ulster. It's for viewers who like their thrillers cold, talky and furious about real history.
