Synopsis
A Star Is Born (1937) is a Hollywood melodrama directed by William A. Wellman — watch it online on iFILM. Esther Blodgett arrives in Hollywood from a farm, waits tables at studio parties and catches the eye of Norman Maine — a fading silent-era star whose drinking has become as familiar as his face. He opens doors for her, she becomes Vicki Lester, and as her name rises on the marquee, his disappears from it. Their marriage holds the story's center: two careers moving in opposite directions, held together by something neither of them can quite say out loud.
