Synopsis

Monroe Stahr (Robert De Niro) all but runs the studio single-handed — greenlighting scripts, soothing temperamental stars, feeling the medium in his bones. The character is modeled on legendary producer Irving Thalberg. Stahr drives himself toward collapse, then falls for a woman (Ingrid Boulting) who looks unsettlingly like his late wife. Around him moves a remarkable cast: Jack Nicholson, Robert Mitchum, Tony Curtis and Jeanne Moreau.
