About

Synopsis

Shall We Dance (1937) is an RKO musical comedy you can watch online, pairing Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers for the seventh time. Ballet star Pete Peters reinvents himself as a Russian named Petrov, even though what he really loves is tap.

He books passage across the Atlantic on the same liner as Linda Keen, a stage dancer he barely knows but can't stop chasing. A throwaway fib about a secret marriage snowballs through the gossip columns, and soon the rumor is harder to undo than any routine on the dance floor.

The Gershwin brothers wrote the songs, including "They Can't Take That Away from Me" and the tongue-twisting "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off." Mark Sandrich directs the ballet-versus-tap face-off, and the roller-skating number still lands for viewers who think they don't care about old Hollywood.
