Synopsis
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) is a sharp British period comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Bharat Nalluri and starring Frances McDormand and Amy Adams. London, 1939, the eve of war. Dowdy governess Guinevere Pettigrew bluffs her way into the employment of American jazz singer Delysia LaFosse — and finds herself plunged into a single wild day of glamour, romance and subterfuge.
Delysia is juggling three men at once: a wealthy club owner, a smitten young musician, and a stage director who can make her career. Pettigrew, who has never once been the one with the answers, suddenly finds she is the only adult in the room. Ciaran Hinds, Lee Pace and Mark Strong round out the cast.
McDormand, playing against type, brings a quiet, unguarded quality to a woman who has spent decades being overlooked. It lifts the whole film. Stream Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) online on iFILM.
