The chases are elaborate, the stunts are real, and nobody ever gets hurt badly enough to slow the next episode down. Seven seasons of that formula ran on CBS from 1979 to 1985, making it one of the most-watched American series of its era — good-natured outlaw TV that never pretended to be anything else.
