Colorado Territory

Colorado Territory (1949) is a western directed by Raoul Walsh that you can watch online on iFILM. Outlaw Wes McQueen breaks out of jail and is immediately backed into a corner: his old partner needs one last train robbery done, and McQueen has little room to refuse.

Walsh had filmed the same story eight years earlier — as High Sierra (1941), with Humphrey Bogart, set in the modern world. Transplanted to the frontier, the same fatal shape holds: a man who wants out but can't get out. McQueen meets two women along the way — the respectable Julie (Dorothy Malone) and the half-wild Colorado (Virginia Mayo) — and his choice between them tells you exactly where this ends. Joel McCrea plays it quieter and leaner than Bogart; less explosion, more resignation.
