They Died with Their Boots On (1941) is a black-and-white western you can watch online on iFILM. Errol Flynn stars as George Armstrong Custer, tracing the cavalryman from West Point cadet to his final stand at Little Bighorn.

The film follows Custer across his whole career: a reckless cadet his instructors can't stand, a Civil War officer who disobeys orders to charge, the man who shapes the 7th Cavalry. Olivia de Havilland plays his wife Elizabeth in the eighth and last picture the two stars made together. A young Anthony Quinn turns up as Crazy Horse.

Don't come for accuracy — the script romanticizes Custer freely and reworks a massacre into heroic myth. As a Warner Bros. epic, though, it delivers: Raoul Walsh's sweeping direction, a Max Steiner score, and a finale the whole film is built to reach.
