Synopsis
Samson and Delilah (1949) is Cecil B. DeMille's Old Testament spectacle — watch it online on iFILM. Victor Mature plays Samson, an Israelite warrior whose strength is legendary and whose enemies have failed to kill him by every means available. Then Delilah (Hedy Lamarr) enters the picture — a Philistine who wants him for reasons that are equal parts desire and revenge.
She finds out where the power lives. A haircut. Chains. Darkness. DeMille stages the betrayal and its aftermath with the lavish production scale that was his signature: the 1950 Academy Awards handed the film two Oscars, for costume design and art direction, and the supporting cast includes George Sanders and a young Angela Lansbury. The film topped the US box office that year by a wide margin.
