Synopsis
The Strawberry Blonde (1941) is a romantic comedy from director Raoul Walsh, available to watch online on iFILM. James Cagney plays Biff Grimes — a likable construction worker who loses his girl, his business partner, and five years of his life to one bad handshake with his best friend Hugo.
Out of prison, Biff reinvents himself as a dentist, marries the steady Amy played by Olivia de Havilland, and mostly moves on. Then Hugo calls the practice with a toothache. Rita Hayworth plays the strawberry blonde of the title, the woman Biff was never quite over, and Walsh uses that old obsession to ask a quiet question: the life you end up with versus the one you thought you wanted.
