Then a car crash kills her sister, and her eight-year-old niece Lina lands on her doorstep. The girl refuses to eat, grieves for her mother, and won't bend to anyone's schedule. Into this collision walks Mario, a loud Italian cook hired beneath Martha — he works to opera and cheerfully wrecks the order she has built her life around. Martina Gedeck plays Martha cool and guarded, letting a real person surface from behind the armor one scene at a time.
