Synopsis
The Seagull (2018) brings Anton Chekhov's play to the screen, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Director Michael Mayer stages it at a sun-drenched lakeside estate, where the family and guests of fading stage actress Irina Arkadina — played by Annette Bening — gather for a restless summer.
Boredom and one-sided love run in circles here. Irina's son Konstantin, a struggling young playwright, mounts an odd experimental play starring Nina (Saoirse Ronan), the local girl he adores. Nina, though, is drawn to Boris Trigorin, the celebrated writer who happens to be Irina's lover. Everyone wants someone who wants someone else, and that chain of disappointment tightens slowly into tragedy. The ensemble includes Corey Stoll, Elisabeth Moss, Billy Howle and Brian Dennehy in one of his final roles.
