Synopsis
The Man Who Sold His Skin (2021) is a drama by Kaouther Ben Hania you can watch online on iFILM. Sam Ali, a Syrian fleeing the war, strikes a strange bargain for the right to move freely through Europe: a celebrated artist tattoos an enormous design across his back.
From that moment, the man is officially a work of art. Sam is exhibited in museums, bid on by collectors at auction, and made to sit on a plinth under the gaze of strangers — alive, breathing and sold. The price of his freedom turns out to be steeper than he imagined. Worse, the woman he loves is already in Europe, married to someone else. The cast includes Yahya Mahayni, Dea Liane and Monica Bellucci.
Ben Hania takes a real stunt by Belgian artist Wim Delvoye and reshapes it into a sharp parable about refugees, the art market and what a person trades for the right to cross a border. The film earned an Oscar nomination for Best International Feature — rare ground for Tunisian cinema. Pointed, uncomfortable and beautifully shot. Stream The Man Who Sold His Skin online on iFILM.
