Synopsis
Golda (2023) is a British-American historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Guy Nattiv and anchored by Helen Mirren's portrayal of Golda Meir — Israel's first female Prime Minister — during the worst nineteen days of her tenure.
It's October 1973. Egypt and Syria launch coordinated strikes on Yom Kippur, catching Israel off guard. Meir chairs a war cabinet in near-constant session, weighing military intelligence against diplomatic pressure from US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger (Liev Schreiber), who has his own agenda. What no one in the room knows — what Meir herself is managing alone — is that she's undergoing cancer treatment in secret, making decisions of historic consequence while her body is failing her.
Mirren doesn't play Meir as a statue. The performance is all fatigue, cigarette smoke, and controlled stubbornness — a leader who knows the cost of every order she signs. The script drew on declassified cabinet transcripts, which keeps the reconstruction close to what was actually said in those rooms. For anyone interested in political leadership under pressure, this is unusually honest about how unglamorous that looks. Stream Golda online on iFILM.
