Synopsis
Raw Deal (1948) is an American film noir you can watch online on iFILM. Joe Sullivan is doing time for a heist he pulled with his partner Rick, who still owes him fifty grand. Rick arranges a prison break for Joe, betting that the law will gun him down before he gets far.
The bet goes wrong. Joe breaks out with two women in tow — Pat, the devoted girlfriend who narrates the whole story, and Ann, the caseworker he takes hostage and then can't stop looking at. Dennis O'Keefe heads a cast that includes Claire Trevor, Marsha Hunt and a young Raymond Burr as the sadistic Rick, a couple of years before Perry Mason made him a household name.
Anthony Mann directed, with John Alton behind the camera — one of the finest stylists ever to light a black-and-white crime picture. Fog, wet pavement, knife-edged shadows and a theremin-laced female voiceover lift this lean little thriller well past its modest budget.
