Rex Harrison plays Sir Alfred as charming, vain and quick to jealousy. One hint that his wife Daphne (Linda Darnell) might be straying turns a concert into a stage for his imagination: while conducting three pieces, he runs through three separate revenges in his head — an elaborate murder, a grand act of forgiveness, a deadly game of roulette. Then he tries to pull one off, and the whole scheme collapses into slapstick.

This is late-period Sturges, one of the great architects of 1940s American comedy, scoring his hero's daydreams to Rossini, Wagner and Tchaikovsky.
