Synopsis
Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (子連れ狼, 1972) is the first film in the landmark Japanese samurai series you can watch online on iFILM. Ogami Itto was the Shogunate's official executioner — respected, honoured, with a family and a code. The Yagyu clan framed him for treason, killed his wife and erased his name. He took his infant son Daigoro and walked away from everything, hiring out his sword to anyone willing to pay.
Director Kenji Misumi adapted the manga by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima, and his approach is blunt: short fights, lots of blood, no patience for ceremony. Tomisaburo Wakayama carries the film on sheer physical presence — a man so stripped of everything except purpose that he barely needs to speak. The image of a warrior pushing a baby carriage through enemies has been borrowed by filmmakers ever since.
Five sequels followed, and the franchise went on to influence a generation of action cinema, from Robert Rodriguez to Takashi Miike. Stream Sword of Vengeance (1972) online on iFILM.
