Synopsis
Summer Hours (L'Heure d'été, 2008) is a French drama to watch online on iFILM, directed by Olivier Assayas and made for the Musée d'Orsay's twentieth anniversary. Juliette Binoche, Charles Berling, and Jérémie Renier play three adult siblings.
Their mother Hélène dies and leaves behind a country house with Corot canvases on the walls and a lifetime of objects connected to a beloved artist uncle. Frédéric, the eldest, wants to keep everything as it is. His sister Adriene runs a design business from New York; his brother Jérémie manages a factory in China. None of them are wrong on their own terms. The house simply cannot stay what it was.
Assayas shoots the whole thing at a low temperature — no shouting, no villain. The film is about how a family's shared sense of place evaporates when the person who held it together is gone. Stream Summer Hours online on iFILM.
