I Am Heath Ledger

I Am Heath Ledger (2017) is a feature documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Directors Derik Murray and Adrian Buitenhuis built the film around something unusual: home video footage that Ledger himself shot obsessively over the years, long before he was famous. The camera he pointed at the world becomes the lens through which the film sees him.

In 90 minutes the portrait moves from early Australian roles to The Dark Knight — the performance that earned him a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Naomi Watts, Ben Mendelsohn, Emile Hirsch, Djimon Hounsou, and director Ang Lee all speak. What they describe isn't a myth: it's a restless, generous, searching person who happened to be one of the finest actors of his generation.
