Synopsis
Watch Man vs. Wild Season 5 (2006) online on iFILM — six episodes only, and one of the roughest stretches of this adventure survival series. Bear Grylls pushes himself here like he's answering the charge that it had all looked too easy.
The season opens on a desert island south of Papua New Guinea: a wade across a shark-filled tidal channel, crumbling volcanic cliffs, and a bamboo windsurfer hacked together for the trip out. After that come the crocodiles of Northern Australia, the snowbound Caucasus of Georgia — which Grylls reaches by riding a snowmobile out the back of a hovering helicopter — and the Mojave with a HALO jump from thirty thousand feet. The Canadian Rockies go badly wrong for real: he's buried in an avalanche and airlifted to hospital. One episode, "Fan vs. Wild," hands the challenge to two viewers who face the wild alongside him.

While in the Canadian Rockies, Grylls is buried alive in an avalanche, swims long distance beneath an ice-covered lake, and is airvac-ed to the hospital when an icy glissade goes horribly wrong.
S5·E4Republic of Georgia
Grylls lands in the snow-capped Caucasus Mountains of the Georgian Republic by driving a snowmobile out the back of a hovering helicopter. He ziplines across a river, camps among wolves and trudges through swampy wetlands.
S5·E5Fan vs. Wild
Grylls takes two fans into the Canadian wilderness for their ultimate survival challenge. They face their fears head on, trek down dangerous glaciers and across a frigid glacial river, build a rustic shelter, and try to swallow typical Grylls fare.
S5·E6Extreme Desert
In the Mojave Desert Grylls puts himself in the path of a man-made sandstorm, takes on the full force of a man-made flash flood and HALO jump from 30,000 feet. His body is pushed to the limit as the temperature soars from minus 40 to 110 degrees.
