Synopsis

Saturday Night Live (1975), Season 4 is the NBC sketch show you can watch online on iFILM — 20 episodes from 1978–1979 and the farewell to its golden lineup. The Rolling Stones open the year; the curtain is already coming.

This is the last season for Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, who both left to make The Blues Brothers movie. The show catches them at full tilt. The Blues Brothers perform "Soul Man" live, Carrie Fisher hosts in full Princess Leia costume, and Belushi keeps barking the "Live from New York" cold opens. Watch all episodes for a pile of future classics: the Olympia Cafe, the Coneheads, Mr. Bill, Nick the Lounge Singer, and the notorious "Pepsi Syndrome." The host list is stacked too — Steve Martin, Buck Henry, Milton Berle, Walter Matthau, Eric Idle, Michael Palin.

The whole cast carried over from the prior year, which makes the goodbye land harder: these performers had been together since the start, and this was the last time. Best viewed as the moment one era of SNL closes out. Stream Saturday Night Live Season 4 online on iFILM.
