Synopsis
The Out-of-Towners (1970) is a comedy you can watch online on iFILM. George Kellerman leaves quiet Ohio and drags his wife to New York for a job interview that could change their lives. One night in the big city is all it takes for everything to come apart.
The plane gets diverted. Their luggage disappears, the hotel gives away their room, strikes paralyze the streets, and muggers clean out his wallet. By dawn George is keeping a furious tally of every wrong done to him, vowing to sue all of New York while his wife Gwen tries to hold both him and their dignity together. Jack Lemmon winds the rage up to the edge of farce, with Sandy Dennis matching him beat for beat.
Neil Simon wrote the screenplay, which explains the tight, biting dialogue and the precise comedy of one small man against an indifferent metropolis. Arthur Hiller never eases off the pace. It's a dry, anxious disaster comedy that ages better than you would expect. Stream The Out-of-Towners online on iFILM.
