Synopsis

Every killing hands him another fragment of a buried childhood memory, and he is convinced that one more bride will finally reveal what happened to his mother. His wife Mildred stands in the way, refusing to grant a divorce. The hatchet settles that too, until her ghost starts appearing to everyone in the house. Everyone, that is, except John.
Bava flips the slasher inside out: the maniac is not a mystery here but the narrator, and we are locked inside his skull from the first scene. Lush color, mirrors, a streak of cold humor — it beat the American slasher wave by a good decade. One for viewers digging back to where the genre started.
