Girl in the Box

In the spring of 1977 the twenty-year-old was hitchhiking to a friend's birthday. The married man behind the wheel seemed harmless. What followed was seven years of captivity: Cameron Hooker and his wife Janice kept her boxed beneath their own bed and stripped her of any belief that escape was possible. Hooker fed her a lie about a secret network called The Company, an all-seeing organization that would hunt her family down the moment she ran.

Director Stephen Kemp keeps the film tight and airless, less interested in gore than in how coercion rewires a person from the inside out. Addison Timlin plays Colleen with cornered, quiet restraint; Zane Holtz makes her captor unsettlingly ordinary.
