Synopsis
The New York Ripper (1982) — stream online on iFILM one of Lucio Fulci's most polarising films and a landmark of Italian giallo cinema. A serial killer is cutting through Manhattan, and he taunts the investigators over the phone in a duck voice. That detail is not a joke — it's the film in miniature.
Police lieutenant Fred Williams (Jack Hedley) and a criminal psychologist work the case from different angles, chasing leads that loop back on themselves while the body count climbs. Fulci keeps the city grimy and the tone deliberately unpleasant, which is either the point or the problem depending on how you feel about late-period giallo.
The film landed on the UK's video nasty list shortly after release, which cemented its notoriety. What makes it worth watching beyond the controversy is its noirish sense of a city rotting from the inside and a final reveal that reframes several earlier scenes in a disturbing light. The New York Ripper (1982) is on iFILM.
