Synopsis
American Fable (2017) is Anne Hamilton's farmland thriller, free to watch online on iFILM. Mid-1980s, somewhere in the rural American Midwest, the farm crisis pushing families off their land. Eleven-year-old Gitty lives in a bright world of horses and fairy tales, until she finds a man locked inside an abandoned silo.
The prisoner is a wealthy businessman, and the one holding him is Gitty's own father Abe, a gentle farmer trying to keep the bank from taking everything. Gitty starts sneaking food to the stranger and slowly warms to him. But the more she learns about who he is and what happens if he gets loose, the closer she edges to an impossible choice: save his life or save her home. Something not quite of this world prowls the edges of the story, too.
Hamilton, once an assistant to Terrence Malick, shoots a child's dread like a dark fairy tale, golden fields and warm light with menace creeping in at the corners.
