Synopsis
Zama (2017) is an Argentine historical drama to watch online on iFILM, directed by Lucrecia Martel and adapted from Antonio di Benedetto's novel. Daniel Giménez Cacho plays the title role.
Late eighteenth century. Don Diego de Zama is an officer of the Spanish crown posted to a remote river colony at the edge of known territory. His family is elsewhere. A transfer to somewhere worth living has been promised and then quietly forgotten. He petitions, waits, absorbs small humiliations from men with slightly more authority. Lola Dueñas plays a woman he can't quite reach; the rumor of an outlaw named Vicuña Porto eventually pulls him toward the jungle.
Martel films bureaucratic inertia as something close to a physical sensation — the heat, the mud, the flat stillness. There is no momentum here by design. The film is about what chronic waiting does to a person from the inside out. Stream Zama online on iFILM.
