Synopsis
Rage (怒り, 2016) is a Japanese psychological thriller directed by Sang-il Lee, available to watch online on iFILM. The 141-minute film adapts Shuichi Yoshida's novel, with Ken Watanabe, Satoshi Tsumabuki, Aoi Miyazaki, and Suzu Hirose heading the ensemble.
A couple is found brutally murdered in a Tokyo suburb — the word "ikari" (rage) left behind in blood. The killer undergoes surgery to alter his face and vanishes. Then, in three separate corners of Japan — Tokyo, Chiba, Okinawa — a male stranger with no traceable past surfaces in each location. Three different communities, three relationships built on uncertain ground. And the same question, in each one: what if this is him?
Lee Sang-il, who previously adapted Yoshida's Villain for the screen in 2010, structures the narrative as three interwoven arcs that converge slowly and deliberately. This is not a procedural — the police investigation runs in the background while the real weight falls on people caught between trust and fear. All three storylines earn their place, though the Okinawa section with Suzu Hirose lands hardest. Stream Rage online on iFILM.
