Synopsis

Mosul (2019) — stream online on iFILM — is a war drama directed by Matthew Michael Carnahan and based on a real account of the Nineveh SWAT team, an Iraqi police unit fighting to reclaim their city from ISIS. A young officer on the edge of death is pulled to safety by the squad and joins their mission block by bloody block.

Every man in the unit has already lost something — a home, a family member, a version of the city they once knew. The film runs 101 minutes entirely in Arabic, with a cast drawn from the wider Arab world, and it refuses the familiar military-movie framing of Western soldiers as the protagonists of someone else's war.

Carnahan keeps the lens close and the sentimentality out. What's left is a stripped-down portrait of why people fight when the odds say they shouldn't. It sits closer to journalism than to action cinema, and that restraint is exactly what gives it weight. Stream Mosul (2019) online on iFILM.
